JJMK Studios ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Shoalr mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
Summary
The short version: Your aquarium data stays on your device. We don't collect, transmit, or store your personal data on our servers. We respect your privacy.
Information We Collect
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
Shoalr stores the following data locally on your device:
- Tank information (names, dimensions, equipment)
- Livestock and plant inventories
- Water parameter logs and test results
- Maintenance schedules and logs
- Nitrogen cycle tracking data
- App preferences and settings
This data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework and remains entirely on your device. We do not have access to this data, and it is not transmitted to our servers.
Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data
- Device identifiers
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
- Photos or images
- Any data you enter into the App
Reference Data Downloads
The App may download updated reference data (fish species database, plant database, filter specifications) from our servers at getshoalr.com. These downloads are anonymous and do not contain any personal information. We do not log IP addresses or track which devices download this data.
Subscriptions and Payments
If you purchase a Shoalr Pro subscription, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs how Apple handles your payment data.
Third-Party Services
Apple Services
The App uses the following Apple services:
- App Store: For app distribution and subscription management
- iCloud (optional): If you enable iCloud backup on your device, your App data may be included in your iCloud backup. This is controlled by your device settings, not by our App.
No Analytics or Tracking
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not use:
- Google Analytics
- Facebook SDK
- Crash reporting services
- Any other tracking tools
Data Security
Your data is stored locally on your device and is protected by your device's security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). We recommend keeping your device software up to date and using a strong passcode.
Data Retention and Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device:
- You can delete any data within the App at any time
- Uninstalling the App will delete all App data from your device
- We have no data to retain or delete on our servers
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Since we don't collect personal information from any users, this is not applicable.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated through the App or via our website.
Your Rights
Since we don't collect or store your personal data, traditional data rights (access, correction, deletion, portability) don't apply to us. You have complete control over your data through the App itself.

California Privacy Rights
California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Since we do not collect personal information, sell personal information, or share personal information for behavioral advertising, these provisions do not apply to our App.
International Users
The App is available worldwide through the App Store. Since we don't collect or transfer personal data, there are no international data transfer concerns. Your data remains on your device, in your jurisdiction.
